SUKKUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th May, 2026) A high level delegation from the World Health Organization (WHO) on Thursday visited the Liver Transplant Department at Pir Abdul Qadir Shah Jeelani Institute of Medical Sciences (PAQSJIMS), Gambat, and commended its performance, patient care standards and teamwork.
The delegation was led by Dr. Eman Hewidy, Technical Officer for Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) at WHO and included Dr. Benedetta Allegranzi, Director of WHO EMRO, Dr. Farah Sabih, Technical Officer for Human Resources at WHO Pakistan, and Dr. Rosamund Lewis from WHO Headquarters, Geneva.
The WHO officials were received by Director PAQSJIMS Gambat Dr. Rahim Bux Bhatti, who briefed them on the department’s operations and recent developments in liver transplantation and intensive care services at the hospital.
During the visit, Dr. Hewidy expressed satisfaction over the department’s progress and praised the Liver ICU staff and nursing team for their dedication, professionalism and collaborative approach to patient care.

The delegation also appreciated Dr. Bhatti’s leadership and acknowledged his role in advancing the department and strengthening Gambat Hospital’s reputation as a centre of excellence for liver and transplant services in Pakistan.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Bhatti thanked the WHO team for recognising the hospital’s efforts and reiterated the institute’s commitment to providing free, high-quality transplant and critical care services to patients from across the country.
Gambat Hospital is among the few public sector facilities in Pakistan offering liver and lung transplant services free of cost, with support from the Sindh government.
The visit concluded with discussions on potential areas of technical collaboration between WHO and the hospital to further enhance infection prevention, staff training and patient safety protocols.
