Transgender “Bebo” joins jail police

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Apr, 2026) In a novel development, a well-known transgender, Sobia, also known as “Bebo,” has officially joined the jail police here on Thursday.

As per details, this marks the first time in the history of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Prisons Department that a transgender has been recruited into the police force.

Subia has been appointed as a warder in Grade 7 and was expected to perform duties either at Peshawar Central Jail or at the department’s headquarters.

With this appointment, Subia became the first transgender to serve in such a sensitive and disciplined institution in the province. The move was being seen as an important step toward inclusivity and equal employment opportunities for the transgender community.

Officials confirmed that Subia was recruited under the designated quota for transgenders, reflecting the government’s commitment to diversity and social inclusion.
