Free travel facility likely to be extended for the month of May

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st May, 2026) Free public transport in Punjab will remain operational for another month. However, the final decision will be taken by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

According to Official sources, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has called a meeting in this regard on Monday for the final decision.

According to the sources, the Transport Department has sent recommendations for an extension of the facility for another one month and the work in this regard has also been completed.

According to the proposal text, there will be one more month of travel facility in the Orange Line train, Metro Bus service, and one more month of free travel facility will be provided in the Speedo Bus, Electric Bus.

Sources say that this facility was started to provide relief to the citizens due to the recent increase in the prices of petroleum products, from which millions of people are benefiting every day.

About 290,000 passengers are traveling free of cost on the Orange Line train alone daily, while more than one lakh passengers are traveling free of cost on the Metro Bus, while a total of about 8 lakh citizens across Punjab are benefiting from this facility every day.

The transport department has also recommended that this be gradually abolished when the prices of petroleum products return to normal.

The final decision will be taken in a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, after which a formal announcement is expected.
