Traders protest business restrictions in Chiniot

CHINIOT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th May, 2026) The voice of traders against lockdown measures and business restrictions grew louder in Chiniot on Thursday as shopkeepers staged a protest outside Funpara Plaza, urging the government to withdraw curbs on business activities.

The demonstration was held on the call of the All Pakistan Traders Association, where participants raised slogans against the Punjab government and demanded an immediate end to restrictions, particularly the 8 p.m. business closure policy. Protest leaders termed the restrictions as economic hardship for small traders and alleged that such measures were damaging their livelihoods.

Addressing the gathering, District Traders Association President Muhammad Jamil Fakhri said traders were being prevented from conducting business peacefully, adding that multiple departments including Excise, FBR and Para Force were allegedly harassing shopkeepers during routine operations.

Trader leader Zahid Saviz demanded the immediate lifting of restrictions before Eid, while Mehr Shahid Manzoor warned that a strike would be announced if their demands were not accepted. Protesters carried placards and banners and continued chanting anti-government slogans during the demonstration.
