Sanam Dam project moves closer to approval, Minister for fast-track measures

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Jun, 2026) The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has moved a step closer to launching the Sanam Dam project in Lower Dir as Provincial Minister for Irrigation Riaz Khan on Thursday chaired a high-level review meeting and directed authorities to accelerate all remaining procedures for early execution of the scheme.

The meeting, attended by Adviser to the Chief Minister on Industries and Commerce Muhammad Humayun Khan and senior officials of relevant departments, reviewed the project’s progress and future implementation roadmap, said an official release.

Officials informed the meeting that the Sanam Dam project has been included in the agenda for approval by the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP), adding that construction work will commence immediately after formal clearance.

Receiving a detailed briefing, the provincial minister stressed the need for timely completion of procedural requirements and instructed departments concerned to ensure coordinated efforts to avoid unnecessary delays.

Riaz Khan said the provincial government considers timely completion of public welfare projects a key priority and is pursuing practical steps for efficient utilization of water resources.

He said the Sanam Dam project would play an important role in strengthening irrigation facilities, supporting agricultural productivity and generating positive economic impact for local communities in Lower Dir.

The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding water infrastructure projects to meet future development and resource management needs across the province.
