Rescue 1122 provides emergency services to 284,651 victims in June

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Jul, 2026) Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) provided emergency response and rescue services to 284,651 victims by responding to 230,916 emergencies across the province during June 2026.

Chairing the monthly operational performance review meeting, Emergency Services Department Secretary Dr Rizwan Naseer expressed deep concern over the loss of 373 lives in 38,646 road traffic accidents, 20,821 cases of serious injuries resulting in permanent disabilities, 3,195 fire incidents and 195 drowning cases reported across Punjab during the month.

The meeting was attended by directors of the Emergency Services Department, heads of various wings and the provincial monitoring officer, while district emergency officers participated through video link. District officers briefed the meeting on their operational performance, major emergencies, response challenges and preparedness for the upcoming monsoon season.

They informed the meeting about the availability of flood response equipment, operational readiness, deployment of water and flood rescue teams and coordination mechanisms established with district administrations to effectively respond to any flood emergency.

The provincial monitoring officer said Rescue 1122 responded to 230,916 emergencies during June, including 53,603 road traffic and trauma cases, 43,720 cardiac emergencies, 36,999 gastrointestinal cases, 19,154 respiratory diseases, 17,461 neurological emergencies, 11,479 fever-related cases, 7,815 urinary diseases, 6,864 obstetric and gynaecological emergencies, 5,291 psychiatric cases, 5,224 diabetic emergencies, 4,824 crime-related emergency calls, 4,506 spinal and joint pain cases, 442 allergy emergencies and 12,959 fire and other rescue incidents.

According to the emergency data, 373 people lost their lives in 38,646 road traffic accidents across Punjab during June. Lahore recorded the highest number of road accidents with 6,938 incidents, involving 7,392 motorcycles. Multan reported 2,433 accidents involving 2,846 motorcycles, followed by Faisalabad with 2,325 accidents involving 2,483 motorcycles, Gujranwala with 1,993 accidents involving 2,095 motorcycles and Sheikhupura with 1,410 accidents involving 1,341 motorcycles. Murree reported the lowest number of accidents, with 220 incidents involving 175 motorcycles.

The data further showed that Lahore recorded the highest number of road traffic fatalities with 39 deaths, followed by Gujranwala with 24, while Multan and Okara reported 19 deaths each.

Lahore also topped the list in fire incidents with 700 cases, followed by Faisalabad and Rawalpindi with 200 incidents each, Multan with 144, Sialkot with 125 and Gujranwala with 114.

Expressing concern over the fatalities, Dr Rizwan said motorcycles were involved in 72 per cent of all road traffic accidents reported during the month. He urged motorcyclists to adopt safe driving practices, keep to the left side of the road and travel at speeds below 50 kilometres per hour, warning that every one-kilometre-per-hour increase in speed raises the risk of a fatal crash by four to five per cent.
