Punjab on high alert amid border situation; security tightened across province

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Feb, 2026) Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem on Friday placed the province's security on high alert and ordered enhanced security arrangements at mosques, worship places, markets and key installations in view of the prevailing western and internal border situation and the second Friday of the holy month of Ramadan.

Chairing a video-link meeting at the Central Police Office, the IGP reviewed overall security measures across the province, including Lahore and Rawalpindi, and directed that security at mosques, commercial centers, police check posts, sensitive locations, key installations, and foreign missions including Chinese and other embassies be further strengthened.

He instructed RPOs, CPOs and DPOs to personally assess security arrangements of mosques and important installations, while also enhancing security at inter-provincial police check posts, police stations and other law enforcement buildings. The IGP emphasised ensuring foolproof security for Chinese experts and other foreign residents, including their accommodation, workplaces and movement, in coordination with the Special Branch, CTD and other security agencies.

Abdul Kareem ordered that the deportation process of illegal foreign nationals, including Afghans and other migrants, be accelerated.

He directed that intelligence-based search, sweep and combing operations be expanded to inter-provincial border areas, while strict implementation of Section 144 be ensured in light of the government’s directives regarding the use of drones.

The IGP further ordered continuous monitoring of markets, commercial centres and sensitive locations through Safe City cameras and stressed close surveillance of terrorists, miscreants and suspicious elements to safeguard internal security. Operations against elements of Fitnah-ul-Khawarij and Fitnah-ul-Hindustan would continue without interruption, he added.

The IGP said that Punjab Police stood shoulder to shoulder with the armed forces and other security agencies to protect the country and ensure law and order as well as relief activities in any emergency. He urged citizens to refrain from spreading or believing in unverified information and rumors circulating on social media.

The meeting was attended via video link by CCPO Lahore, Additional IG South Punjab, Additional IG CTD, Additional IG Special Branch, all RPOs, CPOs and DPOs, while Additional IG PHP Faisal Ali Raja, DIG IT Mansoor-ul-Haq, AIG Operations, AIG Development and AIG Admin were present at the Central Police Office.
