Love Island USA executive producer James Barker has died unexpectedly at the age of 40 while working in Fiji, where he was filming Season 8 of the popular reality series.
According to PEOPLE, Barker passed away last week following an “unexpected medical emergency.” His death was officially confirmed on Monday, June 15 by ITV America and Peacock, the production companies behind the franchise.
In a joint statement, ITV America and Peacock expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Barker as a highly valued and beloved member of the production family.
They said his kindness, creativity, and dedication left a lasting impact across the Love Island USA team and the wider ITV and Peacock networks.
The statement added that his passing is being deeply felt throughout the entire production community and extended condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.
The franchise has confirmed that it will honor Barker in the upcoming episode of Love Island USA, scheduled to stream on June 16, 2026.
Barker began his career in television in 2011, working on shows such as Counting Cars, Forged in Fire, and Pawn Stars. He later joined ITV America, where he worked on Queer Eye before becoming part of the Love Island USA production team in 2020, where he played a key role in shaping the series.
Barker’s sudden passing has been widely mourned within the entertainment industry, where colleagues remember him as a dedicated producer who contributed significantly to some of television’s most successful unscripted formats.
