Precautionary measures advised for Eid sacrificial animals

MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th May, 2026) As Eid-ul-Azha approaches,livestock experts have advised the public to adopt proper care and hygiene measures for sacrificial animals to ensure their health,maintain meat quality and prevent the spread of diseases.

Dr.Jamshaid Akhtar said sacrificial animals should always be healthy,active and free from visible illness or injuries.

He advised buyers to check for clear eyes, normal breathing and a dry nose before purchasing animals, while avoiding weak or sick livestock.

He stressed that animals must be kept in clean, dry and well-ventilated places with constant access to fresh water and balanced feed, particularly during intense heat.

According to him, dehydration can cause weakness, reduced appetite, illness and weight loss, which may also affect meat quality.

Dr.Jamshaid Akhtar further advised livestock owners to keep newly purchased animals separate for a few days avoid overcrowding and unnecessary travel and maintain cleanliness around animal shelters.

He urged people to immediately consult a veterinarian if animals show symptoms such as fever,coughing,excessive salivation or refusal to eat.

He also emphasized proper disposal of sacrificial waste and maintaining hygiene after Eid to protect public health.
