Police unveil Muharram security plan for 297 processions, 1,478 gatherings

DARYA KHAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Jun, 2026) The police have announced a comprehensive security plan to ensure foolproof arrangements during Muharram-ul-Haram, deploying more than 1,200 police personnel across the district to safeguard religious processions and gatherings.

On the instructions of District Police Officer (DPO) Shahzad Rafiq Awan, the authorities have finalized security measures for 297 processions and 1,478 religious gatherings scheduled from the first day of Muharram until the end of the observance period.

More than 100 traffic police officers and personnel will also be deployed to maintain the smooth flow of traffic. The special elite force teams and patrol units will conduct continuous surveillance around the processions, gatherings and other sensitive locations.

Under the supervision of the DPO , SP Investigation Shaukat Ali, along with all SDPOs, DSPs, SHOs and other field officers, will oversee security arrangements on the ground.

The police said search, sweep and combing operations were continuing across the district to prevent any suspicious activity and address potential security threats in a timely manner.

The strict screening measures, including walk-through gates, metal detectors and physical searches, will be implemented at entry and exit points of all processions and gatherings.

The female police officers will conduct security checks of women participants, while additional personnel will be deployed at sensitive locations.

The DPO said maintaining law and order during Muharram remains the top priority of the police. He added that all officers and personnel were on high alert and fully prepared to respond to any untoward incident.

He urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and immediately report any suspicious activity or emergency situation to the relevant authorities.
