In a bold strategic comeback to the world’s largest auto market Stellantis has announced a major revival plan for its Peugeot brand signaling a fresh chapter in China through a renewed partnership with Dongfeng Motor Corporation.

Stellantis has unveiled plans to significantly expand its footprint in China announcing that its Peugeot marque will commence vehicle production in collaboration with long-standing partner Dongfeng Motor Corporation, leveraging the latter’s advanced technology for both domestic sales and international exports.

The announcement coincided with Peugeot’s high-profile return to the Beijing International Auto Show, where the brand introduced two forward-looking concept vehicles.

The move underscores a strategic re-engagement by Stellantis in the Chinese market widely regarded as the world’s largest automotive arena following a prolonged period of underperformance and structural realignment.

In a formal statement Stellantis indicated that the newly revealed concept models signal the direction of an upcoming portfolio comprising large sedans and SUVs.

These vehicles are set to be manufactured in China, catering not only to local demand but also serving as export models for Peugeot’s global markets.

The automaker emphasized that the forthcoming lineup will integrate Peugeot’s distinctive design language and driving dynamics with Dongfeng’s technological capabilities, reflecting a synergistic approach aimed at enhancing competitiveness.

Production will be carried out at Dongfeng’s Wuhan-based manufacturing facility, while the first model under this renewed strategy is projected to be launched in 2027, according to company representatives.

Stellantis and Dongfeng already maintain a well-established partnership through their joint venture, Dongfeng Peugeot-Citroën Automobile (DPCA).

The latest initiative marks a calculated effort to revitalise Peugeot’s positioning in China and reinforce its role within the group’s broader global strategy.
