KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th May, 2026) Spokesperson for the Mayor of Karachi and Parliamentary Leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Karamullah Waqasi, has termed the ongoing development projects, transport reforms and civic improvement initiatives across Karachi as historic measures aimed at transforming the city’s infrastructure and improving the quality of life for its residents.
Highlighting major projects, he said the Power House Choragi Flyover in North Karachi, estimated to cost approximately Rs2.5 billion, is of significant importance for the city. Around 80 percent of direct traffic is expected to utilize the flyover, while service roads will facilitate local traffic movement. Similarly, the Four-K Choragi Flyover project, costing Rs2.377 billion, will provide substantial relief to commuters.
He further stated that the Rs600 million rehabilitation project linking Clifton Blocks 1 to 5 with Marine Drive Road is an important step toward modernizing Karachi’s coastal infrastructure. The project includes road repairs, drainage improvement, and culvert construction, restoration of the Bilawal Chowrangi drain and strengthening of coastal connectivity corridors.
Waqasi added that the Rs2.2 billion road construction and upgradation project from Football Stadium Baldia to Shahrah-e-Orangi via urdu Chowk will improve connectivity between Orangi Town, Baldia Town and Hub River Road. He also described the rehabilitation of Mehran and Pajero Roads connecting Gulzar-e-Hijri with the M-9 Motorway as another key infrastructure initiative.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>He said the rehabilitation and beautification of Shahrah-e-Faisal service roads, along with drainage correction and road repair works, would significantly reduce traffic pressure on one of Karachi’s busiest arteries.
Referring to additional projects, Waqasi said the expansion and rehabilitation of Haji Camp Road from Maulvi Tamizuddin Khan Road to Mai Kolachi, the link road from Jinnah Avenue to Yar Muhammad Goth Gulzar-e-Hijri, and the improvement of Haji Ibrahim Isa Road connecting the Northern Bypass with the Super Highway would play a crucial role in facilitating both urban and freight traffic.
He highlighted the launch of new Peoples Bus Service routes in Khairpur, the addition of more buses, pink buses for women, scooter schemes and double-decker bus projects as people-friendly initiatives.
He said that after the addition of four new routes and 40 new buses in Karachi, the total fleet of the Peoples Bus Service has reached 300 buses, reflecting the Sindh government’s commitment to public welfare.
Karamullah Waqasi further said that Sharjeel Inam Memon’s announcement regarding the opening of Shahrah-e-Bhutto later this month is a major relief for Karachi’s residents, as it will provide direct access to the motorway. He added that the proposed road project from Karachi Port to Taj Haider Bridge would also play a vital role in improving the city’s traffic system.
