Kuwaiti Foreign Minister arrives in Pakistan for official visit

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Kuwait are set to further strengthen their longstanding partnership as Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday for a two-day official visit focused on bilateral cooperation and regional matters.

The visit, scheduled from July 28 to 29, is being undertaken at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar. During his stay, Sheikh Jarrah Al-Sabah will hold official talks with DPM Dar, the Foreign Office said.

According to the Foreign Office, discussions between the two sides will cover the full range of Pakistan-Kuwait relations, along with an exchange of views on regional and international developments of mutual interest.

The Kuwaiti foreign minister is also expected to meet Pakistan’s leadership during his visit.

The Foreign Office said the visit reflects the shared commitment of Pakistan and Kuwait to further strengthen their enduring relationship and expand cooperation for the benefit of both countries.

The visit comes amid reports that Pakistan and Kuwait have been engaged in talks over expanding defence cooperation, alongside potential collaboration in energy and investment sectors.

According to Reuters, Kuwait has been considering a broader defence arrangement with Pakistan. The two countries currently maintain a limited defence agreement focused on training and joint exercises, established in 2023.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar recently reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for the United Nations and effective multilateralism during a telephone conversation with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi.

During the conversation, both sides discussed regional developments and emphasized the importance of continued diplomacy, dialogue, and constructive engagement to promote peace and stability.
