The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday maintained a show-cause notice issued to the Superintendent of Adiala Jail in a bail petition filed on medical grounds by accused Ahmad Aziz, citing the lack of adequate medical treatment facilities in prison

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Jun, 2026) The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday maintained a show-cause notice issued to the Superintendent of Adiala Jail in a bail petition filed on medical grounds by accused Ahmad Aziz, citing the lack of adequate medical treatment facilities in prison.

A division bench comprising Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro and Justice Muhammad Asif heard the case . During the hearing, the accused's medical report was presented before the court, while the jail superintendent's report revealed significant details regarding the prisoner's treatment.

The court was informed that despite doctors recommending on May 14 that the accused be shifted to a hospital, the transfer could not be arranged. Questioning the jail authorities, Justice Soomro asked what steps had been taken following the medical recommendation.

Jail officials told the court that after receiving the doctors' advice, they had written to the Punjab Home Department seeking approval for the transfer.

However, they were unable to specify the exact date of the correspondence and admitted that no response had yet been received from the department.

Expressing concern, Justice Soomro remarked that more than a month had passed since two doctors recommended hospitalization. According to the medical report, the accused was suffering from serious ear and nose complications, including an infection.

The judge warned that if any harm came to the accused due to the delay in treatment, the jail authorities could be held responsible and even face criminal proceedings. The court directed the jail administration to obtain an update from the Home Department and inform the court accordingly.

The show-cause notice against the Adiala Jail Superintendent was maintained, while further hearing of the case was adjourned.
