HEC announces GRE, subject tests mandatory for MPhil, MS admission

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th May, 2026) GRE and Subject Tests have been made mandatory by HEC's Testing Service for MPhil or MS admission. The Higher education Commission on Thursday has issued a notification in this regard.

According to HEC, steps have been taken to ensure quality, transparency, uniformity and merit-based admissions.

The current methods of admission to Level 7 and Level 8 programs have been reviewed.

According to HEC, there is a need for a uniform and reliable assessment system at the national level. The test will be mandatory from the fall 2026 admission.

All government and private universities will be admitted to MS/MPhil or equivalent programs only on the basis of GRE and relevant subject tests.

The tests will be conducted by the Education Testing Council of HEC. All universities should ensure implementation of HEC instructions.
