Heatwave warning for Sindh as Punjab braces for rain, dust winds

Met Office predicts that intensity of heat remains high in Lahore and other parts of Punjab, although a weak weather system bringing dust-laden winds and light rainfall is still present across the province, including Lahore

LAHORE / KARACHI: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-May 23rd, 2026) Pakistan is likely to witness contrasting weather conditions as Punjab continues to experience a rain system with dusty winds, while Sindh faces a sharp rise in temperature with heatwave conditions expected in several districts.

Pakistan Meteorological Department predicted that the intensity of heat remains high in Lahore and other parts of Punjab, although a weak weather system bringing dust-laden winds and light rainfall is still present across the province, including the provincial capital.

Meteorologists said that Lahore may experience strong winds during the afternoon and evening hours, with chances of scattered light rain in some areas. The minimum temperature in the city is expected to remain around 27°C, while the maximum may reach up to 40°C.

On the other hand, Sindh is likely to face increasingly severe heat conditions, with a heatwave warning emerging for several districts. Temperatures in parts of the province may climb as high as 50°C.

Weather experts have warned that during the week from May 25 to May 31, temperatures across Sindh could rise further, with an increase of up to 6°C compared to normal seasonal levels.

In interior Sindh, several areas are expected to experience extreme heat, prompting authorities to advise citizens, farmers and elderly individuals to avoid unnecessary exposure to sunlight and take precautionary measures during peak daytime hours.
