Former senator Taj Afridi killed in M-1 motorway accident

The Motorway Police officials say accident occurred when the vehicle carrying the former senator met with a fatal crash while travelling on the motorway section near the interchange

ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-June 12nd, 2026) Former senator Taj Afridi was killed in a traffic accident on the M-1 Motorway near Colonel Sher Khan Interchange, Motorway Police confirmed on Friday.

The Motorway Police officials said that the accident occurred when the vehicle carrying the former senator met with a fatal crash while travelling on the motorway section near the interchange. The vehicle reportedly lost control, resulting in a severe accident that proved fatal for the passenger seated inside.

Officials said that Taj Afridi died on the spot due to the impact of the crash, while his driver sustained injuries. The injured driver was shifted to a nearby medical facility for treatment, where his condition was said to be under observation.

Motorway Police stated that the former senator was travelling from Islamabad to Peshawar when the incident took place.

Initial information gathered from the scene suggests that the accident may have been caused by a possible mechanical fault in the vehicle, although authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause.

Rescue teams and motorway patrol units reached the site shortly after the incident and secured the area to facilitate relief operations and remove the damaged vehicle from the roadway. Traffic flow on the motorway was temporarily affected but was later restored after clearance of the accident site.

The officials added that a detailed investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances leading to the crash. Technical experts are also expected to examine the vehicle to verify whether a mechanical failure contributed to the accident.
