LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd May, 2026) Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi on Saturday visited Badami Bagh bus stand to review complaints of overcharging and overloading by public transporters ahead of Eid-ul-Azha and directed officials to ensure strict action against violators.
During the visit, the CTO interacted with passengers and inquired about fares being charged by transporters. He also checked driving licences, fare lists and route permits of vehicles operating from the terminal.
According to traffic police spokesperson, action had been taken against 345 vehicles during the last two days over complaints of overcharging. Multiple vehicles were also penalised for charging passengers above the officially approved fares.
Speaking on the occasion, CTO Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi said no transporter would be allowed to charge fares beyond the prescribed rates during Eid holidays.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>He directed vehicle owners and drivers to display official fare lists inside public transport vehicles and warned that strict action would also be taken against transporters involved in overloading passengers, including carrying passengers on rooftops and accommodating more than the permitted number of passengers inside vehicles.
He said only PSV licence holders would be allowed to operate public transport, adding that cases would be registered instead of issuing challans against drivers found operating without licences or carrying passengers on rooftops.
The CTO said traffic police teams had been deployed at Lorry Adda, Babu Sabu, Niazi Chowk and Thokar Niaz Baig, while additional teams would monitor overcharging and overloading at 10 locations including Shahdara Chowk and Begum Kot Chowk. He urged citizens to contact Police Helpline 15 in case of complaints regarding overcharging or overloading.
