Dera Ismail Khan, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Apr, 2026) Acting on the directives of Director General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority, Kashif Jillani, the district food safety team carried out a comprehensive inspection of hotels and restaurants in Dera Ismail Khan on Wednesday.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Deputy Director Sajjad Ahmad, while Assistant Director Wasif Khan led the field teams. The inspections were carried out in line with the provincial government’s directives aimed at improving food safety standards and ensuring hygiene compliance.
During the visits, officials issued notices to hotel and restaurant owners, directing them to further improve the open kitchen system. Establishments were instructed to convert conventional kitchens into open kitchens or install surveillance cameras to ensure transparency in food preparation processes.
The teams also listened to concerns raised by owners and managers regarding operational challenges and noted their reservations related to directives issued by the district administration.
In addition, expired licenses of several food outlets were renewed on the spot to ensure legal compliance.
In a separate action, the food safety team recovered a large quantity of spoiled and foul-smelling halwa, along with expired cold drinks, from a sweets shop. The contaminated items were destroyed on the spot, while fines were imposed on the shopkeepers for violations of food safety regulations.
Officials reiterated their commitment to ensuring the provision of safe and hygienic food to the public and warned that strict action would continue against violators.
