CM inaugurates Maarka-e-Haq Square in Rawalpindi

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th May, 2026) Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has inaugurated the “Maarka-e-Haq Square”

under the “Signal-Free Rawalpindi” project, which has been completed in a record 179 days

instead of the scheduled 190 days.

According to a handout issued here on Sunday, the project includes five underpasses,

two overhead bridges and a pedestrian bridge, making it Pakistan’s first unique signal-free

corridor project completed ahead of schedule. Kachehri Chowk of Rawalpindi has been

officially renamed ‘Maarka-e-Haq Square. After unveiling the milestone plaque of the project,

special prayers were offered for the country’s progress and prosperity.

CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif later visited the signal-free corridor and inspected the overhead

bridge and adjoining roads. She also reviewed the signal-free project from Annexi Chowk

to GPO Chowk.

During the visit, Minister for Communication and Works (C&W) Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bharath

gave a detailed briefing on the project.

Officials informed the chief minister that more than

200,000 vehicles would pass daily through the signal-free corridor in Rawalpindi’s busiest areas.

The project also features the first state-of-the-art pedestrian bridge at Maarka-e-Haq Square.

Authorities said two phases of the Rawat-to-Motorway signal-free corridor had been completed,

while the third phase would also be completed soon.

Under the broader plan, underpasses will also be constructed at Race Course, Charing Cross

and AFIC Chowk. The 25-kilometre-long corridor from Rawat to the motorway will comprise

a total of nine underpasses and three flyovers.

On the occasion, CM Maryam Nawaz said the signal-free corridor would transform the urban

culture of Rawalpindi and significantly improve traffic flow and public convenience.
