China urges dialogue after reports of fresh US strikes on Iran

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning says disputes should be resolved through peaceful means rather than military escalation

BEIJING: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-May 26th, 2026) China on Tuesday called on all parties to return to dialogue and uphold ceasefire commitments following reports of new US military strikes targeting sites in Iran.

Responding to reports that the United States had conducted strikes on Iranian missile facilities and vessels allegedly preparing to deploy naval mines, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said disputes should be resolved through peaceful means rather than military escalation.

Speaking at a media briefing in Beijing, Mao urged all sides to honour ceasefire commitments, continue dialogue and negotiations, and work towards a solution that addresses the legitimate concerns of all parties involved.

She stressed the need for efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in the Gulf region and the wider middle East.

The Chinese spokesperson also called on the United States and Iran to settle their differences through diplomatic channels and avoid actions that could further destabilise the region.

Mao said China has remained in close contact with relevant parties, including Iran, since the outbreak of the conflict and has continued efforts to support de-escalation and restoration of peace.

She added that China would continue to play a constructive role in promoting stability in the Middle East in line with the proposals and diplomatic approach put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Reiterating Beijing’s long-standing stance on the Iranian nuclear issue, Mao emphasised the importance of a political solution while safeguarding the international nuclear non-proliferation framework and regional security.

The remarks came after the United States announced on Monday that it had carried out what it described as “self-defence” strikes in southern Iran targeting missile launch sites and boats allegedly involved in laying mines.
