Chilam Joshi Festival begins with colors and traditions in Kalash Valley

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th May, 2026) The centuries-old Chilam Joshi Festival has officially begun in the Kalash Valley of Chitral with traditional enthusiasm and vibrant celebrations.

The four-day festival, running from May 14 to May 17 has attracted thousands of local and foreign tourists to the scenic valleys.

The festival is celebrated by the Kalash community to welcome the new season and express joy over fresh harvests. It reflects the ancient traditions, culture and religious beliefs of the indigenous Kalash people.

During the celebrations, Kalash women, children and young people wear colorful traditional dresses, perform cultural dances to the beat of drums and sing folk songs.

The festival also includes religious rituals, prayers and traditional ceremonies where new relationships and engagements are often announced.

The Chilam Joshi Festival is considered not only a religious and cultural event of the Kalash tribe but also an important symbol of Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage, drawing visitors from around the world every year.
