ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Jun, 2026) Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture, Aurangzeb Khan Khichi Wednesday announced to establish a dedicated educational museum at the historic Government Graduate College Asghar Mall, Rawalpindi, reaffirming the government's commitment to preserve country's educational and cultural heritage.

The museum will be established through joint efforts of the Department of Archaeology and Museums and the college administration.

The announcement was made during a ceremony held to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Department of Archaeology and Museums, National Heritage and Culture Division and Government Graduate College Asghar Mall.

The Federal Minister attended the event as the chief guest and described the agreement as a significant step towards safeguarding one of the country's important academic heritage sites.

Speaking on the occasion, Aurangzeb Khan Khichi said that the government would work jointly with the college administration to establish a museum and develop it as a center of learning, research, and heritage awareness. “We will work together and establish an academy of museum and heritage learning. We are committed to protecting and preserving the valuable heritage of Asghar Mall College for future generations,” he said.

The Minister emphasized that educational institutions with rich historical backgrounds must be preserved not only as centers of learning but also as repositories of national history and cultural identity.

Under the MoU, both institutions will collaborate to promote awareness of cultural, historical, and archaeological heritage among students, while providing academic and practical exposure in the fields of museology and conservation.

The agreement also envisages expert lectures, seminars, workshops, educational visits to museums and archaeological sites, internships, and research opportunities aimed at enhancing students’ understanding of heritage preservation.

The proposed museum will house artifacts, emblems, archival material, photographs, documents, and other exhibits reflecting the history, architecture, academic traditions, and distinguished legacy of Government Graduate College Asghar Mall.

The Department of Archaeology and Museums will provide technical expertise and guidance for the establishment and management of the museum in accordance with recognized museological and conservation standards, while the college will allocate suitable space and facilitate museum-related activities.

Director General DOAM, Amanullah Khan noted that the initiative will transform the college into a model institution for heritage education and public engagement.

He expressed confidence that the museum will serve as an important educational and research resource, inspiring students to appreciate and protect Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage.

The MoU has been signed for an initial period of five years and reflects the shared commitment of both institutions to preserving historical assets, promoting heritage education, and strengthening public awareness about Pakistan’s cultural legacy.
