LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th May, 2026) A seven-day anti-polio campaign was formally launched across Lahore on Monday, with over 2.285 million children under the age of five set to receive polio drops during the drive.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ijaz, in a message issued on the occasion, said that protecting children from polio was a collective responsibility and essential for ensuring a healthy and secure future for coming generations. He said the vaccination campaign was simultaneously underway in all 274 union councils of Lahore, while more than 14,000 mobile teams had been deployed to carry out door-to-door vaccination activities across the district.

The DC said special teams had also been stationed at all entry and exit points, including transit locations, to ensure that no child was left unvaccinated during the campaign.

DC Ali Ijaz said foolproof security arrangements had been made for the safety of polio teams and smooth conduct of the campaign.

He urged elected public representatives to fully cooperate with the district administration in making the anti-polio drive successful. He further directed Union Council Medical Officers (UCMOs) to remain active in persuading reluctant parents and addressing their concerns regarding vaccination.

The DC emphasized that polio was an incurable disease and vaccination was the only effective protection against it. He reiterated the administration’s resolve to make Lahore polio-free by ensuring that every child below five years of age received two drops of the vaccine.

Appealing to parents, the DC urged them to cooperate with vaccination teams and ensure that their children were administered polio drops during the ongoing campaign.
