Cody Johnson earned one of country music’s top honors on Sunday, winning the entertainer of the year trophy at the 2026 “Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards”.
The 38-year-old country singer dedicated his award to fellow nominee Luke Combs.
During his acceptance speech, he praised Combs’ dedication to music and shared a personal story about witnessing the challenges Combs faced on tour.
“There’s a man that was up for this award that I personally watched devote his life to country music,” Johnson said. He recounted being in Australia when Combs’ wife gave birth and how Combs performed despite missing precious family moments.
Johnson continued, “The next night, he went on stage and gave an incredible performance for thousands of fans.”
He added, “So, tonight I want to dedicate my first entertainer of the year award to my buddy, Luke Combs. I love you, brother.”
Highlights of the 2026 ACM awards:
The 61st ACM Awards took place Sunday, May 17, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Shania Twain hosted the star-studded event, which featured performances from major country stars including Miranda Lambert, Lainey Wilson, Kacey Musgraves, Blake Shelton, and Riley Green.
While Megan Moroney led the nominations with nine, Ella Langley emerged as the night’s breakout star, winning all seven of her nominations.
Cody Johnson also took home “male artist” of the year, securing the evening’s top honors.
