LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Feb, 2026) Principal of Post Graduate Medical Institute (PGMI) and Ameer-ud-Din Medical College (AMC), Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal, has said that the progress of the medical profession, like any other field, depends strictly on the hard work, dedication, and professional competence of the youth.
He expressed these views while addressing a ceremony on Friday held in honor of position-holding students of AMC and the Nursing College of Lahore General Hospital (LGH). He remarked that young health professionals are the true strength of Pakistan and that the future of the country’s healthcare system relies heavily on their commitment to knowledge and clinical expertise.
Prof. Afzal reaffirmed that PGMI, AMC, and the Nursing College will continue to prioritize modern research and high-quality education, emphasizing that medicine is not merely a profession but a sacred mission of serving suffering humanity, where character and empathy are as essential as academic qualifications.
He further stated that patients place their lives in the hands of healthcare providers, making it the foremost duty of every doctor and nurse to uphold this sacred trust. Stressing the importance of continuous learning, he said clinical research has become indispensable to address modern medical challenges and urged successful students to dedicate their abilities to the selfless service of humanity.
During the ceremony, certificates were distributed among high achievers in the presence of a large number of faculty members and students. The Principal reiterated that the institution is placing special emphasis on character-building to ensure that future healthcare professionals adopt service to humanity as their ultimate life goal.
Talking to the media, Prof. Afzal revealed that 20 students of MBBS Fourth Professional secured distinctions in various subjects, significantly enhancing the reputation of AMC. In addition, students of the LGH Nursing College secured first and second positions, bringing great pride to their institution.
He attributed this success to the collective efforts of teachers and the diligence of students, congratulating all stakeholders. He vowed that medical teachers would continue to make every effort to groom future healthcare leaders.
The ceremony was attended by prominent medical figures including Prof. Nudrat Sohail, Prof. Farah Shafi, Prof. Tayyaba Gul Malik, Prof. Faiza Athar, Prof. Khurram Saleem, Prof. Farhan, Prof. Nazish Saqlain, Dr. Saira Zeeshan, Principal Nursing College Samina Kausar, Dr. Abdul Aziz, Dr. Nadia Arshad, Nursing Superintendent Saima Fateh and others.
