RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Mar, 2026) Youm-e-Ali (AS) was observed in the Rawalpindi District with religious spirit and reverence on Wednesday amid tight security arrangements.
Mourners brought out processions and held Majalis (gatherings) to pay rich tribute to Hazrat Ali (AS) for his countless sacrifices, undaunted courage and services rendered for Islam.
The central procession taken out in connection with the Youm-e-Shahadat of Hazrat Ali (AS) concluded peacefully at Imambargah Colonel Maqbool Hussain in the wee hours of Wednesday after passing through its traditional routes under strict security arrangements.
The participants ended the commemorative gathering by offering prayers for peace in the country and the entire Ummah.
Speaking to the media during the procession, Tehreek Nifaz Fiqh-e-Jafaria (TNFJ) chief Allama Agha Syed Hussain Muqaddasi said the life of Hazrat Ali (AS) remained a shining example of justice, fairness, support for the oppressed and service to humanity.
His teachings and character continued to offer guidance for contemporary times, he said, urging the Muslim Ummah to promote unity, peace and brotherhood so that a positive image of islam could be projected to the world.
The TNFJ leader appreciated the security arrangements made by the government, saying such measures helped ensure the safety of the public and the protection of religious freedom.
Comprehensive security measures remained in place across the city by the Rawalpindi Police, with high alert along the procession routes and at sensitive locations.
City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi, Syed Khalid Mehmood Hamdani, along with Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations), Senior Superintendent of Police (Investigation) and other senior officers, remained present in the field. Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema also accompanied him.
More than 3,000 police officers and personnel performed security duty on the occasion, while over 100 traffic wardens and officers ensured the smooth flow of traffic in the city.
Walk-through gates were installed at all entry points to the procession and participants were allowed to join only after a thorough body search. Snipers were deployed on rooftops of buildings along the route, while the procession was continuously monitored from a special control room established at the City Police Station through Safe City and other surveillance cameras.
CPO Hamdani, in his remarks while taking a round of the procession, commended the policemen for their professionalism and responsible performance of duty. He said the Rawalpindi Police remained committed to ensuring the protection of life and property of citizens at all times.
