LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Jun, 2026) Punjab Minister and Chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order Khawaja Salman Rafique on Friday commended law enforcement agencies, the civil administration and other government departments for ensuring the peaceful observance of Ashura across the province.
The minister expressed these views during a visit to the Punjab Home Department’s Central Control Room, accompanied by Punjab Home Secretary Dr Ahmad Javed Qazi. He appreciated the officers and officials performing duties at the provincial control room as well as personnel deployed at district control rooms across Punjab.
Salman Rafique said that, by the grace of Almighty Allah and through the coordinated efforts of all stakeholders, Ashura passed peacefully throughout the province. He said the Pakistan Army, Punjab Police, Rangers, Home Department, Health Department, Rescue 1122, district administrations, Auqaf Department, Local Government Department, Punjab food Authority, LESCO, Civil Defence and other institutions played a vital role in maintaining law and order and ensuring effective arrangements during Muharram-ul-Haram.
The minister also acknowledged the valuable contribution of religious scholars and district Peace Committees in promoting harmony and facilitating the peaceful observance of Ashura.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>He said that, under the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the provincial government effectively promoted the message of peace, religious harmony and inter-sect unity throughout Muharram-ul-Haram.
Salman Rafique said Punjab Police provided foolproof security for all Majalis and mourning processions, while religious scholars used their sermons to promote unity among Muslims. He added that the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions would continue to inspire generations as an enduring symbol of truth, courage and sacrifice.
On the occasion, Home Secretary Dr Ahmad Javed Qazi said all departments had worked as one team to maintain peace during Ashura. He described this year’s Muharram security arrangements as among the best in the province’s history, adding that they had been widely appreciated by people belonging to all schools of thought.
The home secretary commended the civil administration, law enforcement agencies and all relevant departments for their professionalism and dedication in successfully implementing the Muharram security plan.
Special Home Secretary Zainab Khan, Special Home Secretary Faisal Farid, Additional Secretary (Internal Security) Maham Asif Malik and other senior officials were also present.
