PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th May, 2026) The Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) on Wednesday officially launched a three-day sanitation operation for Eid-ul-Azha to ensure provincial capital remains clean and hygienic.

A massive workforce of 3,850 personnel including 2,880 sanitation workers and 970 water supply staff, has been deployed across 42 urban union councils in the city.

To manage heavy influx of sacrificial animal waste, WSSP has designated 16 central collection points where offal and remains will be brought from narrow streets before being transported via a fleet of nearly 800 small and large vehicles to the Shamshatoo landfill site for safe, scientific disposal.

As part of rigorous hygiene plan, WSSP teams are conducting twice daily chemical spray and fumigation drives utilizing lime, chlorine, pesticides, and rose water to control odor and prevent disease.

To actively involve the community, WSSP has distributed over 10,000 biodegradable waste bags directly to citizens, while its central 1334 helpline and zonal complaint cells have been activated 24/7 to address public grievances immediately.

Both District Administration Peshawar and WSSP have appealed for public cooperation to ensure a clean, eco-friendly festive season.

Meanwhile, Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shahab Ali Shah and Commissioner Peshawar Riaz Mehsud conducted a thorough inspection of WSSP head office to review operational readiness.

Expressing deep appreciation for frontline staff, Chief Secretary distributed sweets, gifts, and eco-friendly bags among sanitation workers.

To boost morale and reward exceptional service, he announced a special additional salary bonus for sanitation workforce, alongside cash prizes for top three performing districts that demonstrate best waste management and cleanliness throughout the Eid holidays.
