WSSP finalizes Eid-ul-Adha cleanliness operation plan, 3,850 deployed

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd May, 2026) Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) here on Friday finalized a special three-day Eid-ul-Adha cleanliness operation plan.

All staff leaves have been cancelled and a total of 3,850 personnel will perform duties in 42 urban union councils for the collection of sacrificial animal waste and remains, routine cleanliness, and water supply and drainage services. This includes 2,880 sanitation workers and 970 water supply staff members.

The plan was finalized during a meeting chaired by Chief Executive Officer Yasir Ali Khan, attended by General Manager Operations Muhammad Ejaz, zonal managers, and other officials.

According to the plan, 798 small and large vehicles will be used for the collection of animal waste and remains. Waste from streets and neighborhoods will be gathered at 16 designated collection points including Finland, Ring Road, Gulbahar Sabrina, Ramdas Chowk, Sufi Colony, Bahadar Kalay Umar Gul Road, District Council Nothia Qadeem, Kotla Mohsin Khan, Gulabad, Charmari Road, Bahadar Kalay Ring Road, near WAPDA Grid Station Ring Road, Phandu Road, and Usmania Town near Ring Road. From these points, the waste will be transported through larger vehicles to Shamshato dumping site for safe disposal.

For disinfection purposes, lime, layers of soil, and insecticides will be used to control foul odor and protect public health. Similarly, lime, marble powder, insecticides, chlorine, and rose water will be used across the city to ensure cleanliness and minimize odor. Arrangements have also been made for spraying, washing, and sprinkling activities.

Alongside the operation, a public awareness campaign will also be launched. Banners will be installed throughout the city before Eid, while 15,000 pamphlets will be distributed. The campaign will ensure participation of 300 religious scholars and public representatives.

More than 10,000 biodegradable bags will also be distributed for the safe disposal of animal waste and remains. Before Eid-ul-Adha, religious scholars will deliver special cleanliness messages during Friday and Eid prayers, emphasizing hygiene, proper waste disposal, and the use of designated collection points to protect public health and the environment.

Special monitoring teams in all five zones will supervise operations during all three days of Eid. The Head Office Complaint Cell helpline 1334 and zonal complaint cells will remain operational round the clock.

In addition, arrangements have been made in areas surrounding the airport to prevent the gathering of birds. WSSP management has appealed to citizens to cooperate with staff for a clean and safe Eid., and not to dispose of animal waste on roads, drains, canals, or open spaces, and to use only designated collection points to help prevent foul smell, spread of diseases, and public health risks.

An emergency response plan has also been prepared in case of rain or any unexpected situation. Under the plan, special teams equipped with dewatering pumps, jetting machines, water tankers, and emergency vehicles will remain available 24/7 to handle rain, blockages, and other emergencies.
