World Consumer Rights Day to be observed on March 15

BAHAWALPUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th Mar, 2026) Assistant Director District Consumer Protection Council (CPC) Bahawalpur Nabeel Badar has said that the World Consumer Rights Day is observed every year on March 15 across the globe, including Pakistan, to raise awareness among consumers about their rights.

He said the Punjab government was committed to protecting consumers in the provision of goods and services, adding that ensuring the availability of quality products and services remained one of the government’s top priorities.

He stated that the relevant consumer protection law provides comprehensive safeguards to buyers against defective products and substandard services. He advised consumers to always obtain receipts when purchasing goods or services and to ensure that items are bought according to the officially displayed price list.

The assistant director further said that in cases of defective goods, poor services, non-display of price lists or refusal to issue receipts, consumers from all tehsils of Bahawalpur district could submit written complaints to the respective assistant commissioners, who act as authorities under the Punjab Consumer Protection Act (Amendment) 2025, or approach the office of the Assistant Director (CPC), District Consumer Protection Council Bahawalpur. He added that under the law, shopkeepers who fail to display price lists or issue receipts may face fines ranging from Rs1,000 to Rs100,000. Consumers can also submit complaints along with the required documents through the official website consumerservice.punjab.gov.pk.
