Workshop on CABI digital tools, research held

BAHAWALPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd May, 2026) The Department of Plant Pathology, Faculty of Agriculture and Environment, Baghdad Al-Jadeed Campus, Islamia University of Bahawalpur, organised a workshop training titled “CABI Digital Tools and Scientific Innovations for Sustainable Cotton Production” in collaboration with CAB International.

The workshop aimed to enhance knowledge and capacity in digital agricultural tools, sustainable crop management, farmer advisory system, pest identification and data-based decision making for cotton production.

The workshop included an expert talk by Muhammad Waseem Ishaq, Project Manager, CABI, representing CAB International. Professor Dr. Muhammad Naveed Aslam Mulghani discussed integrated cotton disease management and highlighted sustainable strategies for effective prevention and treatment of cotton diseases through biological and chemical methods.

During the technical session, speakers discussed the role of CABI in promoting sustainable agriculture at the national and global levels, including digital platforms, farmer advisory services, pest and disease identification, and data-driven decision-making, with a particular focus on cotton sustainability, climate-smart farming, biodiversity conservation, and farmer support initiatives. One session focused on gender inclusion in agriculture, emphasizing the importance of empowering future generations through women cotton farmers and inclusive agricultural development. Participants said that women's active participation in cotton production is essential for strengthening rural livelihoods, improving household welfare, and promoting sustainable social development.
