Wildlife department in action against illegal hunting, bird trade

RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Mar, 2026) The Punjab Wildlife Department in Attock district carried out operations against illegal hunting and unlawful trade of birds in different tehsils, issuing six challans and recovering fines amounting to Rs 205,000.

According to official sources, the actions were taken in various areas of Attock district as part of efforts to protect wildlife and curb illegal hunting activities.

In Jand Tehsil, one person was fined Rs 50,000 for illegally keeping six partridges, which were later released back into their natural habitat. Another violator in the same tehsil was fined Rs 35,000 for illegally keeping a peacock.

Officials also imposed a fine of Rs 45,000 on a person for setting up an illegal hunting net, which was confiscated and destroyed on the spot.

In Hazro Tehsil, authorities issued a challan to a man for laying nets to trap quails and imposed a fine of Rs 30,000, while the nets were destroyed.

Similarly, in Fateh Jang Tehsil, one person was fined Rs 20,000 for keeping a black partridge illegally and the bird was released into the wild.

Another challan was issued in Pindi Gheb Tehsil, where a violator was fined Rs 25,000 for setting up nets for illegal quail hunting and the nets were confiscated and destroyed.

Officials of the wildlife department said that such operations would continue and strict legal action would be taken against individuals involved in illegal hunting or trade of wildlife to ensure protection of natural biodiversity.
