LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Apr, 2026) On the directives of Chief Minister Punjab, revolutionary steps have been initiated to modernize the Water and Sanitation (WATSAN) sector across the province.
In this regard, Secretary Housing Punjab Noor Ul Amin Mengal has issued key directions for establishing a comprehensive Research and Development (R&D) system.
According to sources, the scope of the Al-Jazari Water and Sanitation academy will be further expanded, while work has also begun on the establishment of the Punjab Water and Sanitation Institute.
The initiative aims to promote modern research, training, and policy development in the WATSAN sector.
On this occasion, Chairman WASA Punjab Sher Ali Khan, Parliamentary Secretary Sultan Bajwa, and Secretary Housing Punjab Noor Ul Amin Mengal jointly inaugurated a modern monitoring laboratory.
During the ceremony, Principal Al-Jazari Academy Dr. Sauman Khalid briefed participants on various ongoing projects, while the DG WASA Punjab also conducted a detailed visit of different sections.
The Secretary Housing directed that a scientific panel be constituted under WASA Punjab, comprising experts and professors to provide technical guidance and support research initiatives.
He further stated that the proposed research institute will provide structured training to engineers, administrative officers, and field staff to enhance service delivery standards.
The Chairman WASA Punjab stated that the Al-Jazari Academy is already benefiting officers and engineers from across the country through advanced training programs, while WASA Punjab continues to work actively on projects aimed at improving public service delivery.
The Parliamentary Secretary emphasized that research is the need of the hour in the WATSAN sector, which will not only improve performance but also ensure better facilities for the public. He added that, in line with the Chief Minister’s directives, significant reforms are being introduced in this sector.
According to the spokesperson, these initiatives will bring innovation to the water and sanitation sector and contribute towards achieving sustainable development goals in the future.
