Uzbekistan delegation arrives in Lahore

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Mar, 2026) A high-level delegation from Uzbekistan, led by the Governor of Tashkent Region, Zoyir Mirzayev, arrived in the provincial capital on Friday.

The members of the delegation held an important meeting with Punjab Agriculture Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahoo and Livestock Secretary Ahmed Aziz Tarar. The purpose of the visit was to further strengthen bilateral trade relations. Detailed discussions were held with the delegation regarding agricultural commodities and dairy products.

Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Agriculture Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahoo said that Punjab contributes more than 70 percent to the country’s total agricultural production. He said, "Cotton, wheat, maize, rice, sugarcane, potatoes, kinnow and mango are the major crops of Punjab."

He further stated that the President of Uzbekistan visited Pakistan last month, during which he expressed interest in importing 300,000 tons of potatoes from Pakistan.

He added that there are vast opportunities for cooperation between the two countries in the field of agricultural research.

He also mentioned that joint working groups would be formed between the Agriculture and Livestock departments and the Government of Uzbekistan. A comprehensive agenda is being prepared for these working groups, and regular online meetings would be held to discuss the agenda.

He further emphasized that bilateral business-to-business cooperation would also be promoted.

Punjab Livestock Secretary Ahmed Aziz Tarar said, "Punjab produces 62 percent of the country’s total milk production." He added that there is strong potential to increase the export of halal meat and poultry products to Uzbekistan.

Meanwhile, Governor of Tashkent Zoyir Mirzayev said that Pakistani rice has a strong demand in Uzbekistan, and Uzbekistan is a major market for Pakistani potatoes.

He noted that due to current regional tensions, certain import and export challenges are being faced.

The governor further stated that Uzbekistan is ready to provide land and other resources for potato cultivation and research, while the Uzbek government would also cooperate with Pakistani farmers in cattle farming.
