LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Jun, 2026) A delegation of prominent religious scholars and spiritual leaders representing different schools of thought visited the Punjab Home Department Central Control Room and held a meeting with Home Secretary Dr Ahmad Javed Qazi to discuss security arrangements and measures for maintaining peace during Muharram.
The delegation was led by Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Pakistan and Khateeb of Badshahi Mosque, Maulana Syed Abdul Khabir Azad. The delegation included Provincial Khateeb Auqaf Punjab Mufti Fatah Muhammad Rashdi, Chairman Pakistan Shia Ulema Council Hafiz Syed Kazim Raza Naqvi, Khateeb Jamia Masjid Data Darbar Mufti Mukhtar Ahmad Nadeem, Allama Abdul Sattar Niazi of Markazi Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadith Pakistan, Provincial Khateeb Auqaf Mufti Muhammad Ahmad Bahawalpuri, Allama Dr Zulfiqar Haider of Jamia Urwat-ul-Wusqa, Mufti Muhammad Shafeeq Awan of Majlis Ulema Pakistan and Pir Muhammad Shah Hussain Muhammadi.
Special Secretary Home Zainab Khan, Additional Secretary Internal Security Maham Asif Malik, Additional Secretary Auqaf Nabeela Javed and other relevant officers were also present on the occasion.
The delegation was briefed on the live monitoring system for processions and Majalis as well as cyber patrolling operations being carried out through the Punjab Home Department’s Central Control Room.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>Speaking on the occasion, Home Secretary Dr Ahmad Javed said the Punjab government was implementing a comprehensive strategy to ensure peaceful observance of Muharram across the province.
He said more than 37,000 Majalis and over 9,000 processions were being monitored throughout Punjab, while the Home Department’s Central Control Room remained operational round the clock and was receiving reports from all districts.
The Home secretary said foolproof security arrangements had been made for all Majalis and processions. He appreciated the role of the Interfaith and Inter-Sect Harmony Committee, saying it had played a key role in maintaining peace, while religious scholars were promoting the message of tolerance, harmony and brotherhood.
Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad lauded the efforts of the Punjab Home Department and law enforcement agencies for maintaining peace during Muharram. He said religious scholars and members of the Inter-Muslim Unity Committee were working side by side with law enforcement agencies to ensure peace and stability. He added that prior to the start of Muharram, the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order and the Ulema Peace Caravan had toured different districts of Punjab to promote inter-sect harmony, tolerance, unity and brotherhood.
The visit concluded with a special prayer for Pakistan’s progress, security, prosperity and lasting peace.
