BUREWALA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th Mar, 2026) Two persons were killed and another sustained injuries by the firing of their rivals during a 'Panchayat', a traditional conflict resolution mechanism that was in session to resolve enmity between two groups, here on Thursday.

According to police sources, the incident occurred in village 401/EB, within the jurisdiction of Sheikh Faazil police station, where tensions had been ongoing between two groups over a dispute regarding a government pond in the village.

Local elders had called a Panchayat to mediate and resolve the issue peacefully. However, the meeting turned deadly when members of the rival group allegedly opened fire shortly after arriving at the scene.

As a result of the firing, two members of the Arain community, identified as Nadeem Shahid and Zahid, son of Siddique, were killed on the spot, while another person, Nisar Ahmed, sustained injuries.

Police said the injured man was shifted to hospital in critical condition. The bodies of the deceased were taken into custody and moved to hospital for post-mortem examination.

Sources said the suspects involved in the firing included Shehzad alias Bhola Jatt and his accomplices, who fled the scene after the incident. Police have started conducting raids at various locations to arrest the accused.

Police officials said that tensions between the two groups had persisted for a long time. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
