Suthra Punjab tops in Maryam Nawaz government’s two-year performance: minister

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Apr, 2026) Minister for Local Government Zeeshan Rafique has said that the control of Suthra Punjab has been

transferred from the division to the district. Suthra Punjab topped in the two-year performance

of Maryam Nawaz's government.

In a survey conducted by the Institute of Public Opinion and Research IPOR, an independent organization, the public gave Suthra Punjab the best rating.

He was expressing his views in a video link meeting of the Managing Directors of (MDs) Suthra Punjab Agencies posted in the districts hels at the Suthra Punjab Authority Office on Tuesday.

Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed Mian, Special Secretary Shahid Zaman, Chief Minister’s Focal Person for Suthra Punjab Asim Mehmood and DG Suthra Punjab Babar Sahib Din were also present.

Provincial Minister for Local Government Zeeshan Rafique congratulated the newly appointed MDs in the districts on assuming responsibilities, saying that the public’s trust in the IPOR survey is a great honor for the entire team of Suthra Punjab. "There is no doubt that Suthra Punjab is a program close to the heart of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz", he observed.

The participants of the meeting expressed their happiness by clapping on Suthra Punjab's top rating in the survey under IPOR. Zeeshan Rafique said that the network of Suthra Punjab is present everywhere. "During the floods last year, this same network became a helping hand for the administration in every place. God willing, our workers will continue helping public during any calamity", he vowed.

He further said that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has provided direct employment to two lakh people through the Suthra Punjab program, while millions of other families are benefiting indirectly.

The minister said that Suthra Punjab is being considered a successful model of cleanliness in the world. "It is our duty to fulfill the growing expectations of the people from Suthra Punjab. We will further improve our performance with district-level monitoring", he assured. He said that the third shift at night has also started in busy commercial areas of big cities. "The infrastructure of this program has also been strengthened in villages", he added. It was decided in the meeting to form anti-littering squads in every district, which will take necessary steps against littering.

The minister urged that the sole purpose of fines for littering should be for correction of the society. "Under the Suthra Punjab Authority Act, the concerned authorities have the power to impose fines", he reminded.

On this occasion, Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed Mian said that the transition process under the authority model is nearing completion. He said that the company model is shrinking while the authority model is expanding.

Director General Suthra Punjab Authority Babar Sahib Din said that there should be no negligence in monitoring contractors. "The expectations of the people and the Chief Minister will be met", he assured.
