Steering Committee expresses satisfaction with Lahore Development Program pace

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Apr, 2026) The Steering Committee of the Lahore Development Program (LDP),constituted by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, met at the Town Hall on Wednesday to review progress on ongoing development projects.

The meeting was attended by Committee Convener and Minister for Local Government Zeeshan Rafique, Minister for Information Azma Bukhari, Advisor to the Chief Minister Zeeshan Malik, and Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed. Deputy Commissioner Lahore and Administrator MCL, Captain (retd) Muhammad Ali Ijaz, briefed participants on Phase II of the program.

The committee expressed satisfaction over the completion of 6,332 out of 8,780 streets in Phase II and directed authorities to ensure the durability and safety of the constructed infrastructure. It was informed that work is ongoing on 1,983 additional streets under MCL, while 646 streets have been completed under WASA’s supervision.

Zeeshan Rafique stated that savings from Phase I are being utilized in Phase II, praising both MCL and WASA for their performance. He noted that 718 km of streets were developed in Phase I, while 849 km are being undertaken in Phase II, adding that such a large-scale project has been initiated for the first time under the “Maryam Nawaz’s Sohna (Beautiful) Punjab” program.

Azma Bukhari emphasized the need to complete essential work before the pre-monsoon season. She shared that 451 km of sewer lines were laid in Phase I, with an additional 290 km under construction in Phase II. Similarly, water supply lines extended 319 km in Phase I and 258 km in Phase II. She added that further schemes will be executed using the program’s savings and highlighted that the vision of equitable development across Punjab reflects the Chief Minister’s agenda. She also noted that LDP, the Punjab Development Program (PDP), and model village initiatives are progressing simultaneously.

Advisor Zeeshan Malik said that comprehensive planning is transforming the province and reaffirmed that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is delivering on her commitments, extending facilities even to previously underserved areas.

Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed stressed maintaining the current pace of work and called for measures to prevent unnecessary digging of completed streets through dedicated MCL teams.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ijaz assured the committee that contingency plans are in place to avoid disruptions during the Eid-ul-Azha holidays, adding that MCL and WASA are working in close coordination to ensure timely completion of all projects.
