Pakistan Hajj Mission Issues 'Health Alert' for Holy Sites

Makkah, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd May, 2026) The Pakistan Hajj Mission has launched a comprehensive public health and awareness campaign for pilgrims in response to the severe heatwave gripping Saudi Arabia. The campaign aims to protect pilgrims from heatstroke, dehydration, and other medical complications during their stay in Makkah and the holy sites of Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah. The mission has released specialized guidelines and maps to help pilgrims avoid emergencies while performing their rituals.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Umar Butt, stated that the health and safety of the pilgrims remains the top priority of the Government of Pakistan. He emphasized that extreme heat is expected during the five days of Hajj. Consequently, pilgrims particularly those suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart conditions should avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight. Butt urged pilgrims to strictly adhere to the designated grouping schedules and coordinate their movements in accordance with the guidelines issued by Saudi authorities.

Dr. Ata-ur-Rehman, Medical Officer of the Pakistan Hajj Mission, reinforced these health precautions in a special video message. Citing a circular from the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, he warned that temperatures at the holy sites are projected to soar between 45°C and 50°C. He advised pilgrims to remain inside their tents during peak afternoon hours, stay in shaded areas, use umbrellas, and consume plenty of water and fluids to prevent dehydration.

Dr. Ata-ur-Rehman issued specific instructions for diabetic and hypertensive patients to take their prescribed medications on time. He strongly cautioned diabetic pilgrims against walking barefoot on hot surfaces to avoid developing foot injuries. He added that anyone feeling unwell should immediately contact the nearest Pakistani or Saudi medical team for assistance.
