SSP takes action after 17-year-old girl attacked with acid near Khairpur

SUKKUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Jun, 2026) A 17-year-old girl, Sharman Mahar, was allegedly attacked with acid by her cousin in Kando Mahar village, prompting immediate action by the Senior Superintendent of Police after the incident came to light.

Advocate Rubina Aman Brohi, Chairperson of the Sindh Commission on the Status of Women (SCSW) on Tuesday visited the survivor at Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) on Tuesday to express solidarity and review her condition. She said Sharman was recovering well despite severe pain and trauma.

“When I consoled her, she said, ‘I am okay, I am fine.’ I understand how painful this must be for her, yet her morale was very high,” Ms Brohi told reporters. “I told her that she will recover very soon if she continues to remain as strong as she is.

The SCSW chairperson added that women from across Sindh, Pakistan and abroad had raised their voices in support of Sharman. We all stand with Ms. Sharman, she said.

According to Ms Brohi, doctors briefed her that Sharman would undergo plastic surgery and was expected to recover well. She also clarified media reports about the extent of injuries. “While some social media reports claimed that she had sustained 70 percent burns, I sought clarification from the medical team. The doctors confirmed that her burn injuries cover approximately 47 percent of her body.”

Police officials said an FIR had been registered and further investigation was underway.
