Sindh govt orders work-from-home on Fridays amid energy crisis due to Iran-US war

Minister Sharjeel Memon says ministers will not take salaries or allowances for April, May and June as part of austerity measures

KARACHI: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-March 10th, 2026) The Sindh government has announced a work-from-home policy for government offices on Fridays to address the ongoing energy crisis and manage fuel consumption across the province.

During a press conference in Karachi, Senior Provincial Minister Sharjeel Memon said that provincial ministers will not take salaries or allowances for April, May and June as part of austerity measures. He added that schools will remain closed from March 16 to March 31, although examinations will continue according to schedule.

The initiative is part of Sindh’s broader plan to ensure energy efficiency and reduce the financial burden on the public while maintaining government operations effectively.

Memon clarified that Friday will not be a holiday for government offices, but employees will work from home. Ministers have surrendered police security vehicles, and a ban has been imposed on new vehicle and office furniture purchases. Additionally, government offices will halt refreshments for the next two months.

The minister emphasized that the government’s priority is fuel conservation. He stated that a meeting with transporters will be held to address rising fares caused by petroleum price hikes, and action has been taken against transporters who raised fares without approval, with some being arrested.
