SC expands media access to promote transparency, public awareness

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th Jun, 2026) The Supreme Court of Pakistan has announced expanded access for journalists and media representatives to its premises, reaffirming its commitment to the constitutional principles of transparency, openness, access to information, freedom of expression and freedom of the press.

According to an official statement issued on Friday, the decision has been taken to strengthen public awareness of judicial proceedings and institutional reforms, while facilitating broader media coverage of matters related to the administration of justice.

Under the new arrangement, all journalists and media representatives holding valid press accreditation cards issued by any press club or the Press Information Department (PID) will be allowed access to the Supreme Court premises for reporting purposes from 9:00 a.

m. to 2:00 p.m. on judicial working days.

Previously, access for reporting purposes was largely restricted to accredited court reporters. The Supreme Court said the revised policy is aimed at providing equal opportunities to all members of the media and enabling more comprehensive and diverse coverage of judicial affairs.

The Court described the move as a significant step towards promoting transparency and enhancing public understanding of the functioning of the judiciary. It added that wider media access would contribute to greater public awareness of judicial proceedings, institutional developments and reforms undertaken by the Supreme Court.
