Saleem Memon urges SSWMB to formulate comprehensive strategy to dispose off offals of sacrificial animals on Eid-ul-Azha

HYDERABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th May, 2026) The President Hyderabad Chamber of Small Traders & Small Industry (HCSTSI) Muhammad Saleem Memon, while lauding the role of Sindh Solid Waste Management board important on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, demanded that a comprehensive and sustainable waste management strategy be formulated to dispose of the waste, bones, fat and other organic waste of sacrificial animals in a modern, scientific and environmentally friendly manner.

In a detailed letter sent to the General Manager Operations SSWMB. Saleem Memon said that during Eid-ul-Azha, due to the large number of sacrificial animals across the city, there is an extraordinary increase in waste and organic waste, due to which problems like cleanliness, odor, drainage and environmental pollution arise in various residential and commercial areas.

Saleem Memon said that the Hyderabad Chamber had given suggestions to the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board in this regard last year too and this year too, keeping in mind the ground realities and public complaints, the need for more effective and modern measures is being felt. He said that complaints are being received from many areas that the waste, bones and other remains of sacrificial animals are not being collected in a timely manner, which leads to severe pollution, dirt and environmental problems.

The Chamber President suggested in his letter that the waste of sacrificial animals should be kept completely separate from the general household waste and for this purpose special biodegradable bags should be distributed among the citizens so that separate collection of waste, bones and other organic materials can be made possible.

He added that during the days of Eid-ul-Adha, separate vehicles and special collection teams should be deployed only for sacrificial waste to ensure prompt transfer and cleaning of the waste.

Saleem Memon also stressed that temporary collection points should be established at the union council level where the spread of odor and diseases can be prevented through lime, disinfectant spray and other preventive measures.

He suggested that the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board should make a regular plan to produce organic fertilizer, biogas and other industrial products from the waste of sacrificial animals. According to him, by utilizing bones, fat and other residues through modern scientific methods, not only can an environmentally friendly solution be found, but the organic fertilizer produced from it can prove to be extremely useful for the agricultural sector and quality organic fertilizer will be available to the farmers of Sindh.

The Chamber President, while appreciating the plastic waste recycling and other waste management initiatives taken by the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board, said that just as efforts are being made to convert plastic waste into usable products, there is a need to introduce a permanent and modern system for organic waste of Eid-ul-Adha in the same vein. He said that public awareness campaign is also very important in this regard and citizens should be made aware of cleanliness and proper waste disposal through mosques, social media, banners, local administration and social institutions so that citizens can also play their role in this national and civic responsibility. Muhammad Saleem Memon expressed the hope that the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board, district administration and other relevant institutions will adopt a timely, coordinated and effective strategy for Eid-ul-Adha 2026 so that the city of Hyderabad can be made clean, healthy and environment-friendly. He said that the Hyderabad Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industry is ready for all possible cooperation in this regard.
