MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th May, 2026) Rural education and Economic Development Society (REEDS) Pakistan, backed by Germany-based Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe (DKH), has distributed agricultural input packages to 412 flood-affected smallholder farmers across 20 villages in Union Council-175 Sheni, Jalalpur Pirwala, Multan district.

The beneficiaries, 328 men and 84 women , each received a package designed to support one acre of cotton cultivation, comprising 10 kg of certified cotton seed, two bags of urea fertilizer, one bag of DAP fertilizer, two bags of organic compost, and two packs of zinc sulphate. In total, the distribution included 412 DAP bags, 824 urea bags, 412 bags of certified cotton seed, 824 packets of zinc sulphate, and 824 bags of organic compost.

The handover ceremony was held at Government Elementary school, Bait Mughal, where agricultural expert Mr. Shakeel briefed participants on climate-smart farming practices. He encouraged farmers to reduce dependence on chemical inputs, transition gradually toward organic compost, and adopt methods that protect soil health and limit environmental damage.

Addressing the gathering, Project Manager Dr. Benjamin Barkat said the intervention was designed to prevent an entire agricultural cycle from being lost. "The 2025 floods devastated Jalalpur Pirwala, and without timely support, families would have lost an entire agricultural cycle," he said. Dr. Barkat also drew attention to Pakistan's disproportionate exposure to climate disasters, noting the country ranks among the world's ten most climate-vulnerable nations despite contributing marginally to global emissions. He called on developed nations to honor their climate finance commitments and on humanitarian actors to align efforts with government-led resilience building.

The event closed with a vote of thanks by Mr. Hyacinth Peter, who acknowledged the contributions of DKH, local authorities, and community leaders in making the distribution possible.
