Recharging wells to be built along with newly constructed tanks

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st Mar, 2026) Upgrading the model of already constructed underground water tanks in the city, recharging wells will also be built along with newly constructed tanks.

Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) offiial sorces told APP that recharging wells will be constructed at water tanks established at Gaddafi Stadium, Cooper Road and Tajpura.

They said, recharging wells will not be included with water tanks built in the past, however, this system will be an integral part of all structures to be built in the future.

The main objective of this initiative is to divert rainwater back into natural reservoirs, rather than just storing it, so that the groundwater level can be gradually raised.

Under the project, prominent locations in the city have been selected on a priority basis.

Similarly, a target has also been set to complete recharging wells with water tanks at a total of ten locations, including Lahore Railway Station and Karim Park.

A special filtration system will be installed in the recharging wells, which will purify rainwater from soil, waste and pollution and gradually absorb it into the ground.
