RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Apr, 2026) Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) has expressed concern over disruption in the supply of petroleum products, medicines and essential commodities due to the ongoing blockade of heavy transport routes in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

RCCI President Usman Shaukat in a statement said the suspension of supply chains was already causing shortages of key items and could soon lead to a rise in prices.

“Markets are witnessing reduced availability of essential goods, while inflationary pressure is building due to logistical disruptions,” he said in the statement issued on Saturday.

He stressed the need to allow the movement of pharmaceutical vehicles, noting that they carry life-saving medicines, including insulin and vaccines.

"Any delay in their delivery could have serious public health implications" , he added.

The chamber warned that continued disruption could also affect fuel supply to key locations, including Islamabad and Peshawar airports.

Traders and goods transporters have urged the district administration to reopen major routes for cargo movement, warning that prolonged blockades would further strain supply chains and push up prices.

Usman Shaukat appealed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to take immediate notice and ensure restoration of transport routes.

“The business community is concerned. Prompt action is essential to prevent further economic disruption and ensure availability of essential goods, particularly medicines and food items,” he said.
