RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th May, 2026) Punjab Minister for Transport Bilal Akbar Khan on Sunday visited the General Bus Stand and various D-Class bus terminals in Rawalpindi along with Deputy Commissioner Dr Hassan Waqar Cheema to review arrangements for Eidul Azha travel and ensure the provision of improved facilities to passengers.
During the visit, the minister inspected passenger facilities, implementation of official fare lists, cleanliness measures, traffic management and security arrangements at bus terminals as a large number of people prepare to travel to their hometowns for Eid celebrations.
Speaking on the occasion, Bilal Akbar Khan said that under the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, providing safe, comfortable and affordable transport facilities to the public during Eidul Azha remained the government’s top priority. He said citizens travelling to celebrate Eid with their families would not be allowed to face unnecessary difficulties.
The transport minister directed transporters to ensure strict implementation of officially notified fares and warned that indiscriminate action would continue against overcharging, overloading and illegal transport operations.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>He also stressed strict implementation of the mandatory five percent quota reserved for differently-abled passengers in public transport, saying the Punjab government attached special importance to the dignity, convenience and safe travel of persons with disabilities. He warned that negligence in this regard would not be tolerated.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Hassan Waqar Cheema said the district administration was continuously monitoring bus stands during the Eid season to ensure timely and quality facilities for passengers. He directed relevant officials to further improve cleanliness, availability of clean drinking water, waiting areas and prompt complaint redressal mechanisms at bus terminals.
Passengers present during the visit appreciated the administration’s efforts and expressed hope that the transport system during Eidul Azha would remain better organized and efficient.
