LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th May, 2026) Punjab Police have placed all cattle markets across the province on high alert and deployed more than 4,000 officers and personnel to ensure security of traders and buyers ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, security arrangements were tightened on the directions of Inspector General of Police Punjab Abdul Kareem as the rush of citizens at cattle markets increased with only two days left before Eid-ul-Azha.
The spokesperson said that over 4,000 police officers and personnel have been deployed for the security of 222 cattle markets across Punjab, including more than 600 personnel assigned to six cattle markets in Lahore.
IG Punjab directed officers to ensure comprehensive security measures for traders and citizens visiting cattle markets. He said that no cattle market would be allowed to operate at any place other than locations approved by the district administration, adding that strict legal action would be taken against illegal cattle markets and unauthorized sale points.
Abdul Kareem further ordered police officers to formulate an effective patrolling plan to curb activities of fraudsters, pickpockets and other criminal elements.

The spokesperson said that 150 officers and personnel have been deployed for security of 23 cattle markets in Sheikhupura Region, while 525 officers and personnel are performing duties at 44 cattle markets in Gujranwala Region.
Similarly, more than 340 officers and personnel have been deployed at 22 cattle markets in Rawalpindi Region, 170 personnel at 22 cattle markets in Sargodha Region, and over 538 personnel at 19 cattle markets in Faisalabad Region.
In Multan Region, more than 480 officers and personnel have been deployed at 20 cattle markets, while over 230 personnel are performing duties at 11 cattle markets in Sahiwal Region.
The spokesperson added that more than 410 officers and personnel have been deployed at 29 cattle markets in Bahawalpur Region, while over 210 personnel are ensuring security at 26 cattle markets in DG Khan Region.
