Punjab launches electric bike scheme 2026 to support students

Students can get electric motorcycles through interest-free installments with an initial payment of Rs15,000.

LAHORE: Rising transport costs have become a challenge for many students, but a new initiative by the Punjab government aims to provide relief by offering electric bikes on easy, interest-free installments under the Electric Bike Scheme 2026.

Under the scheme, eligible male students will be able to acquire personal electric motorcycles through an affordable payment plan, which includes an initial down payment of Rs15,000 and monthly installments of around Rs2,000.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced the initiative during a ceremony in Arifwala, where 10 government schools were granted the status of Nawaz Sharif Schools of Eminence.

During her address, the chief minister also announced several education-related reforms, including the establishment of Nawaz Sharif Schools of Eminence in every tehsil, modernization of government schools, and the launch of artificial intelligence laboratories across Punjab.

Who can apply for the electric bike scheme?

Students applying for the scheme must meet the following eligibility criteria:

• The applicant must be at least 18 years old, while some categories allow applicants up to 35 years of age.
• The applicant must be enrolled in a degree college or university.
• The educational institution must be recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
• The student must hold a valid Punjab domicile.
• The applicant must have a valid motorcycle driving licence or learner’s permit.
• The applicant must not already own any registered motor vehicle.

The Punjab government has clarified that only one person from each family will be eligible for an electric bike, even if multiple siblings meet the required criteria.

How students can apply?

Applications for the Electric Bike Scheme 2026 will only be accepted through the official Punjab government online portal.

Students will need to register using their CNIC and personal details, complete the online application form, upload the required documents, and submit their applications for verification.

After the verification process, successful applicants will be selected through a computerized balloting system. Students will also be able to check their application status through the official portal.

• CNIC or B-Form
• Bonafide student certificate (if required)
• Punjab domicile certificate
• Motorcycle driving licence or learner’s permit
• Passport-size photographs
• Additional family details or affidavit, if requested

Authorities have advised students to rely only on official government updates and avoid unofficial websites or agents. The selection process will be carried out through computerized balloting to ensure transparency.

The initiative is expected to help students manage transportation challenges while encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles across Punjab.
